The VÍAS VERDES stand will showcase at FITUR how its dynamised programme promoted nationwide by the Spanish Railways Foundation encompasses more than 2,600 kilometres of old disused railway lines recovered as non-motorised, eco-friendly itineraries that promote hiking and cycling tourism. In addition, given their high levels of accessibility, they are an active tourism product available to the entire population and all kinds of visitors, including the disabled.

Sustainability is one of the basic features of this tourist product given that the aim is to “recycle”, recover and enhance the old disused railway platforms, a rich and historical railway heritage that these actions have prevented from being forgotten. Moreover, the territory’s environmental improvement is one of the direct consequences of having launched the green trails.

As well as these itineraries already in place in all the autonomous regions, they encourage the non-polluting tourism of travellers who move around the territory on foot or bicycle in a leisurely and sustainable way while enjoying the landscape, cultural and gastronomic resources and everything offered by the territory in which the green trails are located. They thus decidedly contribute to the sustainable development of the rural world.
