- Located at Los Cabos and La Paz, both buildings aim to promote meetings and events tourism, in an eminently tourist area

The International Tourism Trade Show, FITUR, hosted the presentation of the two new conventions centres of Los Cabos and La Paz, in the state of Baja California del Sur, which are housed within the Mexico stand. This is one of the main innovations in infrastructures geared towards development of MICE tourism in the country. Both conventions centres will be run by Actidea, with the collaboration of IFEMA in consultancy and strategic and business assistance, and as international operator for recruiting events.
Situated in an especially attractive location for congresses and other types of events, both conventions centres, owned by the Government of Baja California, will begin operations on the 19th of March, and their activity will be geared towards meetings and events tourism in Los Cabos and La Paz. They will operate under a plan for development and operation led by professional management procedures, and IFEMA has ample experience in this field, thus contributing to boost one of the main economic assets of Baja California del Sur. In fact, according to data from 2015, a total of 5,952 meetings were held in the State, mainly incentives programs and corporate meetings (36% of the total held in Mexico) in addition to association congresses.
In this new international project IFEMA has participated in the development of the strategic and business planning for both centres, and has provided its experience and consultancy in order to start up the centres. IFEMA has also provided technical consultancy in the adaptation of the building and installations; in the definition of the managing company; the training processes, or the global business consultancy, in addition to operating as international agent in the recruiting of events. IFEMA’s worldwide network of offices will also be involved in recruiting events.
The La Paz Conventions Centre, built in 2014, has 3,000 square metres and can hold 3,600 people, in addition to other areas for conventions, exhibitions and festivals.
La Paz has three research centres, a biotechnological park and a campus for 4,000 students, making it ideal to place itself high on the list of potential locations for scientific congresses and national conventions. One of its advantages is its air connectivity with 17 national airports and six national airlines. The hotel infrastructure offers 1,913 rooms.
The Los Cabos International Conventions Centre, inaugurated in 2012 to receive the G20 Summit, has a total indoor surface area of 12,840 square metres, a main area of 5,400 square meters and capacity for 6,500 people.
Los Cabos is a reference in the luxury tourism sector, where it has greatly expanded, receiving between 10% and 50% of incentive tourism. It has very good air connectivity, with six national airports and connections to 30 international airports, and a large hotel infrastructure, with 12,448 rooms.
IFEMA, global operator, held six Trade Shows abroad in 2017, in Cairo, Lisbon, Santiago de Chile and Shanghai, with own branding and varied professional sectors. Among its main international operations destinations are Latin America, where in addition to the three Trade Shows that it co-organises with Chile, it is working on adding new projects in Peru, Colombia and Mexico.
It is also active in Asia, where it has established cooperation with Korea, in addition to organising Trade Shows in China, and other initiatives that are being outlined in India. Africa is also in the picture, where two editions of the Fruit Attraction Mena have already been held In Egypt, soon in Shanghai and plans are underway for Latin America. We must not forget Europe, where there are open collaborations in Bulgaria and Romania, and in Italy with Fiera di Roma, and with Rimini and Vicenza, through the Italian Exhibition Group. A wide range of activity, to which must be added IFEMA’s participation in the strategic and business consultancy for the Los Cabos and La Paz Conventions Centres in Baja California Sur.
