• FITUR will concentrate in Madrid the latest world tourism proposals and will place the focus on sustainability and on new technologies as the key factors in the transformation of the tourism industry

The upcoming staging of FITUR 2018, which is organised by IFEMA from 17 to 21 January at Feria de Madrid, is again shaping up as the major international benchmark event of the tourism industry given the excellent participation expectations, which are added to the broad diversity of proposals featured in its offer and which will transform FITUR into the centre of attraction for professionals from around the world.In this regard, FITUR’s contents will put particular focus on sustainability and technological innovation as the key factors in the current transformation of the tourism industry. In this context we will announce the actions being undertaken by countries, businesses and institutions to contribute to improving the environment. Also showcased will be the latest technological developments as well as Big Data management, emerging start-ups and segmented marketing in the Fitur Know-How & FiturtechY sections.

The event will also announce the advances of the first digital innovation lab on 5G applicable to the tourism industry and to the sphere of trade fair activities. The lab was created thanks to the collaboration agreement between IFEMA and 5TONIC, a body founded by TELEFÓNICA and IMDEA Networks Institute, in which ERICSSON is also a partner.

Moreover, FITUR is presenting INDIA as its partner country, a world power and rising destination for business, trade and tourism. This establishes a broad field of joint action in the most significant fields of representation and communication of this major event in the tourism industry.

Appointment for business

FITUR 2018 will be the global meeting point for tourism professionals and will this coming year once more become the leading trade fair for Latin American inbound and outbound markets. The last staging saw the participation of 9,893 exhibitor companies from 165 countries/regions, 135,838 trade visitors and 109,134 visitors from the general public. We should emphasise the 18.8 % growth in international trade visitors over the previous year. In addition, the volume of business appointments reached the figure of 6,800.

 Together with the new FITUR Festivals, FITUR 2018 will feature the regular sections FITURTECH Y, the Forums for Sustainability, Innovation, Technology and Business organised by the Instituto Tecnológico Hotelero (ITH); Fitur Know-how & Export, organised by SEGITTUR in collaboration with ICEX and FITUR;  FITUR Shopping; FITUR Health together with Spaincares; and FITUR Gay (LGBT) organised by Diversity Consulting International. In addition to this, the Trade Fair will also include the staging of Investour, the Tourism Investment and Business Forum for Africa organised jointly by the UNWTO, Casa África and FITUR.
