Close to 80 applications were registered for the competition “The App Tourism Awards 2018”, organised by SEGITTUR, in collaboration with FITUR. Of the registered applications, 40 were in the national category, 33 in the international category and one in the smartwatch category.

In the national category, destination guide had the most inscriptions, with 15, followed by tourism services (13), cultural and wine-gastronomic tourism (10), sports tourism, nature and adventure (2).

In the international category, 22 were registered in tourism services and 12 in destination guide. Lastly, there was only one in the Smartwatch category, therefore it was declared void.

Of all the registered applications, the three finalists in each category must appear at Fitur on the 18th January for the winner of each category to be chosen.

The finalist applications by categories are:

Best national tourism App: Destination guide category: Xàtiva Official Tourism Guide, Valle de Tena, Santander Wrecker – Discover Cantabria. Sports, nature and adventure tourism category: Snow Project, CiclamadridConecta!. Cultural and wine-gastronomic tourism category: León Birthplace of Parliamentarism, RJB Living Museum and Cisneros 5th CentenaryRoute. Tourism services category: Unsheeping, PirateTravellers and hellohotel.

Best international tourism App: Destination guide category: PUNTAGO, MyMauritius, SMIITY – SMart Interactive cITY. Tourism services category: GuesttoGuest, AirHelp and HotelsCombined Hotel Comparison Tool.

The tourism application competition will be holding its 5th edition in 2018, and throughout the 5 editions there were 525 applications submitted, of which 70% were national and 30% were international.

The jury of the App Tourism Awards will comprise representatives of FITUR, SEGITTUR and Turespaña, as well as professionals who are experts in the technology, tourism, online marketing and communications industries.

The prize is an award that entails the acknowledgement by SEGITTUR, an organisation under the Ministry of Energy, Tourism and Digital Agenda, and FITUR, one of the main tourism fairs in the world, for the best tourism applications in the various categories.

In the category of national apps, the winners will also be included in the list of applications on the official Spanish Tourism website (www.spain.info).
